Our Commitment to Veteran Support and Community Service
At Kirsch Transportation Services, Inc. we understand the importance of coming together to serve our community. Our deep-rooted commitment to making a positive impact was exemplified earlier this month when members of our team, including Co-Founder and President Matthew Kirsch, attended The Home Depot Foundation’s annual event. This event brings together transportation vendors from across the nation, all united by a common goal: to support the foundation’s mission of creating affordable housing solutions for veterans, training skilled tradespeople, and aiding communities impacted by natural disasters.
Learn how we showed veteran support by revamping a tiny home village in Savannah, Georgia.
Revamping the Veteran Tiny Home Village in Savannah, Georgia
This year’s initiative focused on the veteran tiny home village in Savannah, Georgia. Our team was honored to be a project day sponsor, joining over 300 volunteers to revamp this vital community. The collective effort involved painting homes, landscaping the property, adding shade structures, creating gathering areas, and painting murals. The transformation was remarkable, bringing a new sense of brightness and joy to the veterans who call this village home.
Matthew Kirsch on Long-Standing Relationships
Matthew Kirsch expressed his pride in the long-standing relationship with The Home Depot, stating, “We value the strong relationships we have built with The Home Depot over the past 20 years and are proud to support and volunteer at these incredible events. The lasting friendships we’ve made working alongside our logistics peers and Home Depot associates year after year and being able to personally witness the effect on our veterans is an incredibly rewarding experience.”
Impact on Veterans
The impact of this initiative was felt deeply by the veterans. Emmanuel Cash, a resident of the Cove at Dundee, shared his emotional response to the renovations. “It was a warm welcome home,” he said. “I felt more of a sense of pride, I guess. I love it, I love it.” Emmanuel had moved in late last year and had already begun personalizing his home with plants and flowers. The community-wide enhancements only added to his sense of belonging and pride.
Home Depot plays a crucial role veteran support.
The Home Depot Foundation’s Commitment
The Home Depot Foundation, alongside the Chatham Savannah Authority for the Homeless, played a crucial role in this project. Erin Izen, executive director of the Home Depot Foundation, emphasized the foundation’s commitment to veterans, stating, “Serving veterans is in the fabric of our culture. We don’t think any veterans should be homeless on any given night, so we put a lot of equity into helping our veterans.”
Emotional Homecoming
The emotional response from the veterans as they returned to their newly refreshed homes was overwhelming. Jenn Dulong, executive director of the Chatham Savannah Authority for the Homeless, described the scene: “Veterans experiencing homelessness often feel unseen and sometimes invisible. When you have over 300 people lining the Cove entrance, clapping and cheering as you’re coming home to all this refresh, I think it was just overwhelming. There was a lot of emotion.”
Kirsch Transportation’s Ongoing Veteran Support
At Kirsch Transportation Services, we believe that every veteran deserves a place to call home. We are committed to continuing veteran support for initiatives like these, ensuring that those who have served our country are never forgotten. As the final touches are added to the homes in the coming weeks, we remain dedicated to our mission of giving back and strengthening our community. Together, we can make a difference, one home at a time.
